Email dora@madcowstudio.com Dóra Rögnvaldsdóttir is a sculptor who has a background in foundry, fabrication and ceramics.“Dora draws on Nordic myth and metaphor to express her concerns about the impact of humanity on the environment…. Her viewpoint is from below as well as above the ocean. Large questions are being asked about the fate of the world, but Dora’s is an optimistic vision…. The tense muscular rhythms of her pieces express energy and a sense of moment, challenging the inflexibility and weight of the materials.” (Dr Michael Bear) "Dóra enjoys working with a range of mediums and the challenge of producing works which combine several different techniques & materials; casting, carving, assemblage of wood, stone, ceramics, cast aluminium and painting." My work aims to create both contrasts and connections between mixture of materials, subject matter and practices. Community arts have been a long realised passion. The arts is the ultimate platform where all can engage in and explore ways of communicating issues that affect individuals or a community as a whole. Working on multible projects over the years with people from different ethnisities, all ages, and disadvantaged backgrounds has been an extraordinary journey of engagement. Every project has its challenges, all participants have an equal voice, their skills are extended and the sucseess of the project is reached through a meaningful process. Community arts project offers people opportunities to work together for the common good of a community while strengthening bonds between all involved and celebrating common achievements. While a practising artist I have been running an art studio Madcowstudio.com for over 20 years with classes and workshops in multible mediums. The essence of community arts is to give people voice. It is this element that is woven into the art and mosaic classes by Madcowstudio.com People explore their own paths through their projects, they learn new skills and they also learn from eachother in a safe group environment. The groups celebrate their achievemnts by taking part in community arts festivals and exhibit their works together. Creating together is the most celebratory gathering for one and all. Dóra Rögnvaldsdóttir Grew up in Iceland and has lived in Australia for a number of years as a practicing artist, teacher and community arts coordinator. |
